Davido pledges ₦300 million to be shared among orphanages in Nigeria

Nigerian singer Davido has pledged a sum of ₦300 million to be shared to orphanages in Nigeria through his foundation.

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Grammy-nominated singer announced his intentions via his official Instagram, saying, “I and my foundation pledge the sum of 300 million naira to orphanages around Nigeria as my yearly contribution to the nation details of disbursement tomorrow.”

Davido, established the Davido Adeleke Foundation in 2022, in collaboration with various charitable organizations, with the noble aim of supporting disadvantaged children. Fast forward to July 2023, a moment of pride ensued as the foundation announced a generous donation exceeding 200 million to orphanages nationwide, directly impacting the lives of 13,818 children. Not content with this significant contribution, Davido expressed his commitment to further philanthropy in 2024.

In a poignant statement released alongside the announcement, Davido articulated, “The inception of the DAF in 2022 reflects my unwavering dedication to consistently aid and establish a robust framework for sustained charitable efforts aimed at uplifting the communities of Nigeria.

Through our collective efforts, we’ve mobilized millions of Naira, channelling vital resources to numerous orphanages, thereby catalyzing transformative change in the lives of countless children.”

The charitable tradition began back in 2021 after the singer’s birthday, when he made over ₦200 million in donations after sharing his bank account details on his Twitter (now X) page.

After amassing the large sum of money, the singer announced that he planned to donate it all to orphanages across Nigeria, “I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totalling ₦200,000,000 will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation,” he said.

He disbursed the funds after adding ₦50 million.
