Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, Davido, is brimming with confidence ahead of tonight’s Grammy Awards. The artist, real name David Adeleke, is vying for success in three categories at the 2024 Grammys hosted at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Davido’s fourth studio album, ‘Timeless,’ is in contention for the prestigious Best Global Music Album award. Additionally, his tracks ‘Unavailable’ and ‘Feel’ are up for recognition in the Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Performance categories, respectively.

In an exclusive interview with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly during the Pre-Grammy show, Davido shared his anticipation, expressing that winning the award for Best African Music Performance would lead to an exuberant celebration.

“I am just happy that we all get to shine. What if there was no (African) category? So, at the end of the day we should all be happy that we have this category, something to call our own. Whoever wins, it’s okay. If I win, we are celebrating. We go crazy,” he said.

Speaking further, he said an African music category at the premier global music award was long overdue.

The Grammys created a new Best African Music Performance category for the 66th edition of the award with Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and South Africa’s Tyla and Musa Keys being the maiden nominees.

However, in the interview, Davido insisted that African music should have been recognised earlier.
